How and when can the VIs ever get rid of her?! Now, she's backing cock fights. Embarrassing and disgusting.

“The federal laws and our territorial laws do not align, and so our people are rightfully concerned about whether they can participate in this activity that has been a part of the Virgin Islands culture and tradition for many, many years,” said Hansen in a press release issued by her office. “We had expected our Delegate to Congress to obtain an exception to the new federal cockfighting laws for the Virgin Islands based on the cultural significance of the activity for us. However that did not happen, and now there’s confusion.”

In some countries there is "cultural significance" to publicly humiliate, beat, torture and kill a dictator when they go off the reservation.
Just wondering if she agrees with them also. No confusion there.

Its important to remember that Chucky doesn't just win elections, she kills them.

The people have spoken, and they feel that she is the person who best represents them, their beliefs, their values, and their attitudes.

I personally loathe Chucky, but she's a symptom of the problem, not the cause of it.

Why can't we put Chucky in a ring and have her fight?

This sums it up to a "T" with that statement. Even-though statesiders don't agree with their traditions doesn't mean they have to stop doing them. I personally do not like the idea, but apparently most of the islands do, which is why this person keeps getting elected. It's like going to Mexico and telling them to stop cock fighting, which is a tradition or Spain and tell them to stop Bull fighting because it's inhuman to do so and it's a tradition. This is one of the very reasons why the rest of the world doesn't like us very much. We have decided to try and recreate the world the way Americans feel it should be. I don't loathe Chucky, I respect her because she has the backing of the people, which is what a democracy is supposed to be.

She does go into the ring with each Senatorial Election - and winds up victorious and elected again.

Not the final numbers from 2012 but taken from the prliminary report:

Incumbent Sen. Alicia Hansen leads the Senate race on St. Croix with 4,908 votes. She is followed by Sen. Sammuel Sanes with 4,662 votes, Judi Fricks-Buckley with 4,485 votes, Nereida Rivera O’Reilly with 3,983 votes, Diane Capehart with 3,846 votes, Terrence Nelson with 3,696 votes, and Kenneth L. Gittens with 3,042 votes.

The poor will mostly vote for those that promise the continuation and fostering of the entitlement mentality.

And we have a lot of poor people here.

We are now seeing the money tree starting to die.

Well said, mtdoramike. I don't like Chucky's opinions, either, but she's a fighter and survivor, and represents her constituents to their satisfaction. Thank goodness there's only one of her.

It just so happens that we are under a U.S. flag and elected officials should behave like it. Other wise they can feel free to get the hell out and move to Mexico or Spain or a third world country of their choosing at their earliest convenience.
P.S If the rest of the world doesn't like our policies they can screw off too!

Cruzaniron, I'm glad you posted that statement. It's kind of ironic that the US promotes democracy, but get nervous when the people vote for candidates that don't meet their expectations.

We promote diversity, but want everybody to be like "us".

Yes, I want everyone to be like me - working for a living and not intentionally living off of the government.

Nature is diverse. Humans are diverse. Products we buy are diverse. The challenge, as I see it, is to change people's expectations about what government should provide. Not just for the less fortunate, but for government employees.

We can all learn from each other, and that should be encouraged worldwide, imo.

Nature is not diverse for the sake of diversity. There has never been an organism or way of doing things which was inefficient/inferior and survived solely because it was different. That's the exact opposite of how nature works.

(from a biological perspective).

...she says, as she exits Kentucky Fried Chicken with a 15-piece bucket...LOL

seriously folks...the average Crucian swallows about 15 chickens per year with no thought as to the feed farms where they are raised, crammed so tightly they can't move, and beaks cut off...

No, I don't support cock fights.

In no way do I support cock fighting; am totally against it. Also I never was fan of and still am not a fan of Chuckie Hansen.

However there are cultures around the world that have had cock fighting as part of their history; examples being Puerto Rico and USVI who have public arenas for such activity. Just because Congress passed the latest farm bill with a rider on it that makes it a "crime" to witness or participate in cock fighting, doesn't necessarily mean one of their "territories or commonwealth's is going to change hundreds of years of having public places for cock fights.

It will only change IF enough people demand this change and make it happen.
Write your senators or call them and demand that cockfighting be made illegal in the VI.
It is NOT part of VI culture and if a culture is cruel and barbaric in its presentation and nature then it needs to be changed.
You are the only ones that can do this so please do not sit idly by when you can make a difference.

Here's what an quote from the article on NY bust where more than 3,000 fighting roosters were rescued as part of a major cockfighting bust in New York, the state attorney general's office and the ASPCA announced.

"Many of the roosters had their natural spurs removed and replaced with razor-sharp metal barbs to make them especially lethal during the fights, New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said in a news release. Investigators also recovered syringes used to inject performance-enhancing drugs as well as candle wax, medical tape and other cockfighting contraband."

“The brutality that’s associated with this is shocking,” Matthew E. Bershadker, head of the ASPCA, told the Times. “If you have a soul, if you have a conscience, you know very quickly that this is a vile, vile betrayal of what’s right. These animals suffer horrifically.”

We can conclude that Chucky has neither.

How many people who oppose cock fighting as barbaric do not consider abortion murder?
