We need your help to permanently ban horse slaughter in the United States. Please contact your members of Congress today.

Horses Need Your Voice, Please Speak Up Today

Urge your members of Congress to support the SAFE ACT

In the midst of the Triple Crown excitement, we can't lose sight of the horses who are not in the limelight. Each year approximately 150,000 American horses are trucked to slaughterhouses in Canada and Mexico, where they are brutally slaughtered. This is a terrifying end for these animals, who often endure painful, repeated blows to the head before being dismembered—sometimes while still alive and conscious. Many are former racehorses and show ponies.

The Safeguard American Food Exports (SAFE) Act is critical legislation being considered by your federal lawmakers in Washington, D.C., which would protect horses by prohibiting their slaughter for human consumption in the U.S. and banning their export for that purpose.

But until this ban is in place, every horse, even the one in the winner’s circle today, is just one bad sale away from the slaughterhouse.

What You Can Do

The cruel, unnecessary and predatory practice of horse slaughter can be stopped for good, but we need your help. Please visit the ASPCA Advocacy Center today to quickly and easily contact your U.S. senators and representative and urge them to support and cosponsor the SAFE Act.

It is critical that your legislators hear from constituents like you in support of this bill. Even if you have contacted them before, please do so again.

Thank you, America, for being a voice for horses.

Horse meat should be available to eat. There should not be barbaric practices involved but to waste meat is ridiculous. Have had the opportunity to eat horse on many occasions in Mexico and we should never let a protein resource go to waste.

This won't save the life of one single horse. Horses not slaughtered for food in the US (a facility was scheduled to open in the US but it was stopped just before they planned to open) are sent to processing plants in Mexico. More US jobs exported.

So you don't give a crap about brutality and cruelty that they must endure.

"Each year approximately 150,000 American horses are trucked to slaughterhouses in Canada and Mexico, where they are brutally slaughtered. This is a terrifying end for these animals, who often endure painful, repeated blows to the head before being dismembered—sometimes while still alive and conscious.

As for you, Sparty, that same reasoning should go for human meat, in that case. In your own words "we should never let a protein resource go to waste."

If you agree that it's perfectly fine to have any animal brutally slaughtered then just don't sign the petition but this is a"terrifying end for these animals, who often endure painful, repeated blows to the head before being dismembered—sometimes while still alive and conscious." Beyond cruel and inhumane.

Neither of you have any empathy.

I have much empathy. Did you read what I said? Animals are eaten. They should continue to be eaten. they should also have some dignity in their death. Have you ever slaughtered and butchered an animal? I have respect for every piece of delicious animal flesh I consume. I hate the "ist" words but I am a speciesist. I believe and will continue to believe man is more important than animals.
