Rotor,

Facts and common sense will never win on this issue. Just as it is the white people that are to blame for the looting and burning of Ferguson. JMHO

I agree with the Libertarian point of view.

The love child of Ayn Rand and von Mises?
There are ample successful socialist countries in Europe. They also tend to have a higher level of happiness. Since this had evolved into Ferguson somehow. Have a read

Liberals talk about the common good in terms of helping those less fortunate than themselves. That is a feel good attitude that overlooks the fact that some people refuse to take care of themselves.

When you talk about the "common good", is it more important that we feed and cloth every individual or that we insure the survival of the human species? What should our priorities be?

I think that less money should be spent on the military and on social welfare programs. More money should be spent on science R&D and on space exploration. If we have another "extinction event", and we have had many over the history of the earth. They range from meteor impacts to mega volcano eruptions to solar events. They WILL happen again. Will it have been more important for us to have fed every person on our planet or that we established a viable colony on another planet?

I believe in Charity, voluntary charity. If your cause is so righteous then why do people need to be forced to support it? Why not make it voluntary?

I'm not a liberal, and don't identify as one. I think it's absolutely insane that conservatives think the opinions of a wide array of totally unrelated topics can be neatly organized into one of two categories. A feel good attitude that overlooks that some people refuse to take care of themselves? Can you remind me what in the hell this has to do with illegal immigrants? This is why it's so hard to even debate something with you, you keep veering off on tangents and try to blend multiple issues into one.

I agree with you that less money should be spent on the military and more should be sent NASA's way. Can you help me convince more republicans of this?

"Will it have been more important for us to have fed every person on our planet or that we established a viable colony on another planet?"

Again, what are you talking about? We're not talking about feeding sub-saharan Africa, we're talking about just agreeing to not deport illegal immigrants.

"I believe in Charity, voluntary charity. If your cause is so righteous then why do people need to be forced to support it? Why not make it voluntary?"

Because they have irrational prejudices and hide behind pedantry and patriotism. Conservatives use logic and reason to form their beliefs? Explain the religious right.

I still am asking, what policy toward those already in the country? Congress will pass election finance reform before immigration reform. And you know when that will happen - NEVER!

What is the "Little Mexico" neighborhood in Chicago? Pilsen, Little Village or somewhere else?

One thing to remember is that as soon as the cost for an employee goes above what they produce, the job will be eliminated,

Melrose Park west Lake St. Why is this important to you? Should I be surprised you are unfamiliar with the intersection of 5th ave and North or the fact that Maywood exists?

Never heard of Little Mexico neighborhood in Chicago, and never heard Melrose Park referred to it either. Cicero would have been considered "more" Hispanic as well as the Chicago neighborhoods listed above.

Only if you like Harness racing

Exactly, go west on North Ave from there until all of the signs are in spanish and you're in Melrose Park, the specific area I frequently heard called Little Mexico or Little Mexico City is in the area of Lake St and 19th Ave. Maybe it was just a locally used nickname, not sure.

Not doubting you wrt the area, just a Chicago type response to areas. Same thing happens when people call Taylor street Little italy

Melrose Park used to be a big Italian neighborhood 20 odd years ago (Still has a sizable mexican/hispanic population)

Seems like a firestorm of activity!!!

I have been away for a number of weeks in Uruguay and upon my return, I thought I would have a look at the blog.

Rotohead, I am in agreement with about 99% of what you advocate. What does that make me?

I worked for a number of years while going to college at jobs that paid $1.75 -$2.00 an hour, commonly referred to at the time as 'minimum wage'. I did not consider them as career and lifetime employment. They provided me some spending money and some great experience in dealing with others, networking, finance, etc. It was only a stepping stone to something better, the American Way.

I never asked for $10 an hour because I could not live on $2! That is ludicrous and irresponsible. I went to school to better myself and fortunately, began a great profession. Then, I got married and started a family. I certainly was educated enough not to attempt it in reverse!

Accountability, Responsibly, Dedication and Hard Work are the key drivers for a successful life and not depending on others hard work for your livelihood.

For years, we have donated to charities which is totally our prerogative. When the government decides what they are going to do with our hard earned tax dollars, that my friends is unconscionable. We have more than enough people getting government handouts that are perfectly capable of working. We don't need more! The handouts have now become a generational lifestyle for many. Have another child, with a father you don't know, and get an increase in benefits........and a new large screen TV.

This is not the way society is supposed to work.

And you just had to do that, couldn't help yourself.

Ugh.

And I quote you ' I think it's absolutely insane that conservatives think the opinions of a wide array of totally unrelated topics can be neatly organized into one of two categories. A feel good attitude that overlooks that some people refuse to take care of themselves?'.

And there are many people who believe that when you state a fact, you are referring to a particular ethnic group, race or gender. Not true my friend. There are millions of people in the U.S who refuse to take care of themselves. Whites, Blacks and Hispanics. Just look and see how many people have recently signed up for free health care through Medicaid. Of course, it is really not FREE!

Are you actually saying that all of these people are disabled and unable to work? Medicaid enrollment increased by almost 6.1 million—principally as a result of Obamacare expanding eligibility to able-bodied, working-age adults.

For many of the same enrollees, there happens to be an epidemic of flat screen TV's, IPhone's, etc. falling from the skies into their hands that continue to refuse to take responsibility for their own lives.

I say we round up anyone on Medicaid and make them trade in anything Gonetropo dems they shouldn't own for a pair of workboots. I mean, everyone knows, you just need to "work hard" and the magic American Dream Fairy will fill your life with money, happiness, good health and love. The Welfare Queens driving Cadillacs argument is as disgusting now as it was was St Reagan uttered its nonsense 30 years ago. Oh, if we are going to hand out workboots to this lazy slobs who are mooching off the system I propose we have out heavy curtains to the "real Americans" who just work hard. That way they can't see out their windows and worry about what's going on inside their own home

We'll the odds are considerably better if you know, actually try Vs doing nothing expecting that someone will hand you a pile of money

I never said anything about just handing piles of money. I'm simply pointing out that idea of working hard wrapped in the American Flag will not automatically give you those things.

And I'm simply pointing out the potential for success is near zero for those that don't want to work at it

Powerball winners and Silver Spoons excluded

I agree with this.
