LF, did y'all end up with the horse?
What about the foal?
Can you extrapolate on the story?
I'm curious as to how the horse came to the attention of Cruzan Cowgirls, where it ended up.
Hopefully, all the kids in video learned something.
Thanks.

BTW - ya still got the Mongoose?

The horse had been tied with a chain when it broke free dragging a length of rope which eventually tightened the chain across her face, jerking tighter every time she stepped on the rope (I can't imagine how that felt, not good...).

The boys that own her had trouble catching her and eventually called us, most of them ,know we help out, these boys were from williams delight, an area we are in quite often.

I'll make a follow up video soon, her recovery is nothing short of amazing, you can't even tell her eye was injured, you can see a bit of scarring across the front, but that's it. Both her and the foal are doing very well last we saw them.

We get a lot of calls out west for issues like this, I've decided to start shooting video of it because some times they are pretty interesting stories. These bush horses are some special adapted breed (unfortunately often adapted to very harsh living conditions), they heal amazingly fast and have insane endurance.

Bhanzhu died 🙁

He was too damn agile and ninja like, we had a file cabinet that looked like it was pushed all the way into a corner, but it was just enough gapped away that it left a little triangle of space that he fell into and died. we searched and searched but never found him, till we did... we've missed him ever since.

We put the word out that if anyone found some babies that needed bottle feeding we would love another,, but didn't hear anything for a long time.

Now we have 3 mongooses that we've been hand raising, we just recently got them and they are hitting their playful stage (finally not hand fed, eating on their own etc) so I'm sure I'll have some cute stuff soon, they are already so hilarious.

Thank you for sharing.
I think it's important for all of us to see, learn and share compassion.
So sorry to hear about Bhanzhu.
It's hard to lose any loved animal or see any animals mistreated and abused.
Thanks for sharing and all that you do.

Mongoose aren't as prevalent as they used to be when I was growing up.
A virus wiped out the major population.
There's still a bounty on them on here in VI. 25¢, I believe.

Unfortunately, they can threaten wild bird populations.

Oh yes, pound for pound it's hard to beat them as hunters, they are certainly not a welcome addition to this island... but I'm actually neutering mine, so helping in some (very) minor way to curb the population.

For us, they are like nature's prozac, they are infectiously playful and seem happy almost all the time; plus they are a super social creature so they'd rather hang out with us than just about anything else (except eating, that's serious business).

Wait till you see what she looks like now; it's amazing.

And she still put her ears back and tried to bite us, so apparently no worse for the wear... haha

It's good to hear it healed up so nicely. It looked pretty scary on the video.

Wowow!
Lucky horse y'all came along to help.
She could've easily been blinded and has considerable bacterial infections.
Thanks for sharing and all that you do.

How's the little one, Dragon, doing?
I love Jennifer's posts.

another miraculous recovery...

I never thought I'd see the intestines of a horse; then a short time later barely a scar... these horses are so amazingly resilient.

I hope to make a short video about dragon soon as well.

It's pretty amazing:

Horses must have incredible blood flow, that really is amazing. Do you use stitches or is their a glue like they are using on people? I couldn't see something like that closing up on person by itself.

everything we did is in the video, not much really; removed the chain and lightly cleaned the wound (mostly with a dilute iodine solution).

we left more iodine for the owner to flush the wound out periodically, but no stitches or glue or anything, I was worried about the eye but now you have to look really close to even see a scar.

Y'all had your work and worry cut out for you with precious little Dragon.
So glad he survived.
I'll look forward to his video and update.
