Hello everyone!! I'm moving to STX within the next 6 months and I was wondering- where is the best place to look for jobs on the internet? I can wait tables (turn and burn and fine dining), I have a license in cosmetology (I worked at a very high-end salon in Nashville), and I also have a degree in Marketing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I know most people won't hire unless you are face to face, but I was hoping sending a resume first would help. Also- I would be willing to fly down for an interview. 🙂 I know people on the island really want to get to know you first- but I'm just throwing this out there. 🙂 You can PM me for my e-mail if you like. (I've searched this board and haven't found much.)

I'm also looking for temporary housing for me and my pup when I get there. He is very well behaved (I can provide a letter from my current landlord). I would like to stay somewhere for about 2 weeks to a month so I can search for (a job and) a place with a year long lease. I don't need much- just a clean/ safe place to bathe and lay my head. I'm looking to pay $850 a month or less. I am probably going to sell my car in the states so close to town (if possible) would be great. I will be buying a car when I'm there. I was also maybe hoping to have an address I could send a few things to about a week or so before I arrive. (if that's not possible- no worries!) 😉

I can move anytime between Jan. and March, so if a great temp place or job is available at a certain date, I can arrange my plans around then.

Thanks so much for reading! I hope you are having an amazing day! :@)

Sounds much like the same situation I'm looking at, except I'm shipping my car with me

I would seriously consider shipping your current car if at all possible. We just moved to the island and had a great experience with VI Cargo out of Miami (Medley, FL to be precise). P.S. They also ship personal goods. Cars on the island are expensive, so we found that shipping ours (~$2000) was a much better deal. It was here when we arrived and they handled all of the paperwork for us.

The jobs you are referring to require health cards and cosmetology requires a local license (as far as I understand).
You really have to come here to take care of those items before getting a job.

I wish I could bring my car with me, however it is a Jag and I don't think it would do very well on the island. I planned on using the money from the car to help me with living expenses. 🙂

I understand that. I'm about to sell my most loved possession, my motorcycle, for the same reason.

Try to ship your car. I got a good quote from Top of the Line Shipping and they are very professional. I am moving from Maryland/DC and they are charging me roughly $2300 to shipping from my door to St. Croix. A Jag will not make it in St. Croix. You might want to get a Honda or Toyota, they have high re-sale value from what I was told.

Good Luck!!
