What's the latest on Barktoberfest '04?

I hear that it's at Bolongo this year- and I think it's coming up soon.

Any details?

Here's what I've found out so far:

October 17th
Bolongo Bay

VIPD is doing a demo of their K9 unit.
There are contests for:
Most Obedient
Owner/Pet look-alike
etc.

Cape Air is sponsoring; it's a Humane Society event.

That's about all I know- will keep the board posted as I hear more.

Hey LR,

Cross your fingers. We are hoping to move into a new house soon. We will find out on Saturday. If so, we can have a pet! We want to adopt a dog. Anyway, we may go to Barktoberfest. We hope to see you there. Onika's dogs had a good time at the get together. Pamela may soon post pics. Thanks for the info!

Hey Teresa

I'm excited about Barktoberfest.

We missed the BBQ (doh!), and wanted to meet Onika and Petrus's dogs. Have heard about but not yet met Stu's pup.

Hope you get the new house- will keep my fingers crossed for you!

BTW, give me a call if you still want the Skin So Soft!

Pamela, would love to see pics!

Best,

LR

Hi Guys!
Sorry your pooch could not attend LR, I know my dog Sydney would have liked the company (of anyone but her younger "brother" pup, Mr. Carr). We have determined not to take the pooches next time, P and I felt like we spent too much time on pet-watch, rather than meeting people.

I am bummed b/c we will be off-island for Barktoberfest, but it is usually a blast!
Hint: If you are the competitive sort, you and your dog would do well to sign up for the contests. Let's just say, the pooches who won the "best kisser" and "most obedient "
...weren't. It is all in good fun after all!

Islander--is there anyway that we can have a page dedicated to past gatherings? It would be nice if we could see pictures of the get-togethers on the website. My .02c.

Good luck on the house Teresa and Chris! I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get to take a pooch home from Barktoberfest. BTW, it is a great opportunity to see how your prospective dog responds to large crowds and a lot of stimulus. Better conditions than at the shelter itself!

Ok, so apparently I was spacing out when the date for this was announced. I thought it was the 25th, but I just found out it is on Sunday the 17th!

So....the pooches will be able to attend, yeah!

Who's going???????????????????

Just kidding of course.

No silly, there is a fully equipped bar there with blender. BARktoberfest. 😉 So no need this time. Once you move here you will understand the need for blenders at all times. Fun was had by all, Casey and LR's dogs romped in the surf. Unfortunately stepped on a damn urchin while trying to retrieve a frisbee in the water as the dogs sat and watched. Damn them, and Casey is a yellow labrador RETRIEVER.

Funny and true story, someone from Bolongo or some staff warned LR that their dogs better stay quiet because there is no barking allowed. Helloooo? BARKtoberfest. Funny thing was that LR's dog's weren't barking, I guess they were telling everyone that. Some people

We had a great time - as did the pups- at Barktoberfest.

Onika, you were right on re: contests. My +1 wouldn't let me put the cutesy-wootsey pirate outfits on our dawgs, so they didn't get to take on the likes of "hot dog" and Little Bo Peep. I would have loved to have competed.

Saw some great dogs there, and met some nice people (including Mr. Mosquito Magnet!).

Actually, Stu, the pups *were* yipping a little bit when we got there (I think they were overwhelmed), and that's when we got the snippy "NO BARKING!" edict. I was floored. This guy wasn't even being facetious!

Stu was a real trooper with the urchin stings. It was our goofy dogs who were more interested in Casey than their floaty toy, so I felt somewhat responsible for the injury- whoops!

Chris, Theresa- didn't see you there. Sorry we missed you! We were hanging at the end of the beach.

Hey, did anyone see the K9 demonstration that was supposed to happen? We left around 3:30, and didn't see the VIPD there. Did they show? Was it good?

There's another benefit for the Humane Society this weekend- again at Bolongo- sponsored by Pirate Radio. It's called the Beach Bash, and features live music. Saturday the 23rd from 1pm-7pm. 776-9696 for more details. We may bring our pups to that one as well. The proceeds go towards their Capital Campaign, which is for the great new animal 'campus' that they're planning to build across from Cost-U-Less.

Sorry LR,

We wanted to go, but things didn't work out. Long story. We didn't get the house that we wanted either. Another long weird story. Sigh. We were pretty bummed. Now we are looking into putting stuff in storage and staying in our smaller home. Sigh.

Glad you had fun. I would have loved to see your doggies, maybe this weekend. We will see. I found it funny that your +1 wouldn't let you dress them! 😉

Hey Teresa

Sorry to hear that you didn't get the house! Hope a better one comes along for you and your family soon! With all these EDCers moving out, maybe the cost of housing will go down (hah!) or become somewhat affordable.

I think we're going to park the pooches at home to play guard doggies while we enjoy the Beach Bash tomorrow. I'm looking forward to another day on the beach! (Hopefully it won't rain!)

Take care,

LR
