I am moving to St. Thomas and have a job/apt there starting next month. I would love to volunteer at an animal shelter during my time off (I volunteered doing the same thing at my local animal shelters in the states) but it looks like it's very expensive to travel from St, Thomas to St. Croix. Any ideas for a newbie who would like to volunteer but can't afford ferry roundtrip prices (ie are there other cheaper methods to get to St Croix from St. Thomas??)

Besides swimming, not really 🙂 There are two ways: ferry which I believe is $50.00 each way so $100.00 round trip or Seaplane which is $85.00 each way so $170.00 round trip. Much cheaper to go from St. Thomas to St. John.

webfoot,
There is an animal shelter on St. Thomas too. I'm sure they could use your help. Just ask around when you get there, or look up the St. Thomas Humane Society.

Thanks! I'm so excited to come to live, but disappointed in the distance between STX and STT. I would love to take a pet, but can only stay one year, so will have to get my animal fix by helping, which I love. I end up wanting to take them all home however 🙁 . I'll check on STT when I arrive.
