I have only visited St. Thomas once and that was just a day trip on a cruise. Looks like I will be relocating to St. Thomas in May and I was wondering if there were good places to run. From what I remember the roads were narrow so just wanted some advice. Any good trails or beaches to run on? I see from this website there seems to be just one gym on the island. Is that the case? If so is the gym decent?

There is a running group- STAR- that has group runs and races. You can check at Player's or Going Seanile for details. The most popular spots include-1. the airport loop- flat and fairly traffic controlled (nice wide sidewalks), 2. the waterfront loop, also flat- from Wendy's to the Frechtown post office is about 1 1/2 mile- can continue out to Sub Base for a longer run. 3. the Magen's/Peterborg loop- can be a 10K if you do it right- has some good hills 4. the hospital loop- a circle around, well, the hospital- about 2 miles and 5. the National Park Road near Red Hook- 1/2 mile flat and early in the am and at dusk closed to traffic. You will see people running the roads, but drivers do NOT like sharing, much better to stick to one of the less vehicularly traveled areas! Bring your own water!

There is a gym at Nisky, one by Cost-U-Less, Gold's downtown, Frenchman's Reef sells memberships and (I think) the new Sugar Bay spa...and there seem to be more every day. Ask around...
