St. Croix Rescue Offering Self Defense Classes
Chief Gregory N Richards, on behalf of St. Croix Rescue Training Academy , is proud to announce Self Defense classes to be offered at the Academy beginning March 31, 2009.

Richards said that the instructor will be Master Joshua Espinal. “Master Espinal is an accomplished Martial Artist; a second Dan in Nisei Goju Ryu, fifth Dan in Kaze Senshi Ryu, and second Dan Ja Goju Jitsu Ryu. He is also a veteran of the War in Afghanistan ,” said Richards.

The class is open to everyone and will run for six weeks beginning on Monday, March 30th. Classes will be an hour long and held on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30 pm and Saturdays at 9:00 am. The fee for the six week course is $100.00. An intermediate course will be added after the first beginners course is completed.

Master Espinal is very excited about the opportunity to offer this training. “Self Defense training provides a multitude of benefits. It builds self confidence, develops an extra sense of safety, keeps you safe and helps you get in shape.”

“Self defense training is not a 100% guarantee that a person will be able to fend off an attacker but the odds are increased dramatically. It’s like shooting hoops, you don’t make every shot but the more you practice, the more you know, the more shots you make,” said Espinal.

Master Espinal will begin the course with Aikido, Jujitsu leading into Aikijutsu. Participants should wear loose fitting workout clothes. About midway through participants will wear their regular clothes so that they will learn to use what they wear or have with them as weapons.

The class is open to anyone interested in protecting themselves – it all comes down to survival. Those interested should contact St. Croix Rescue’s PIO Liz Goggins at 771-4420 or email [email protected]. Class size is limited so call today.

The St. Croix Rescue Academy is located at Five Corners.
