Greetings TIMES TWO, Sunset Jazz Fans!
Feb. 18, 2006 - Two times the music! Two times the FUN! Yes, we're doing a double whammy.....a back-to-back....a "play it again, Sam!" As all of you know, Friday, Feb. 17th FEDA is hosting Stanley & the Ten Sleepless Knights, Hans Leonardo Pedersen and the VI Rhythm Section in one heckuva evening of jazz at our monthly, third Friday Sunset Jazz in Frederiksted! But, that isn't all! Sunset Jazz in Frederiksted is proud to also feature it's own native son, the Hugh "FUMA" Petersen Quintet on Saturday, Feb. 18th in the Sunset Jazz Take II!

Hugh Petersen brings back to St. Croix his massive talent which has evolved from performing all over the world, as well as with some of the top names in the jazz industry. Looking for a slower pace, "FUMA" has now "settled" in Louisville, Kentucky. Operating from a spirit of sharing his gifts, his knowledge and his phenomenal talent, Petersen teaches at Louisville's Flying Hands School of Music. He has also taken the time to share these same musical gifts with local students during his visit to St. Croix.

While "FUMA" may have been looking for a slower pace in his lifestyle, it certainly isn't reflected in his performance style. High energy is an understatement when Petersen is on stage. Joined by a group of artists that share that same incredible level of energy, The Hugh Petersen Quintet makes you oh, so thankful your ears are in working order!

Making up the Quintet is "FUMA" on drums, Tim Whalen on saxophone, Pete Petersen on piano, Brian Vinson on bass and the incredible...the versatile....the toe curling - make the hair stand up on the back of your neck - vocals of Gail Wynters!

Gail Wynters is a singer who almost defies barriers. Wynters has the whiskeyed edge to her voice that lends itself to blues, but her jazz capabilities are strong, and her ear is unerring. The woman's got a voice that can easily be described as a mixture of raw honey and fine, southern bourbon! Having performed along side many of the greats in the jazz industry, including the production of her CD with Dr. John, Wynters' passion for life and her passion for the music come through in her songs.

Friends, neighbors, visitors, you've got a big weekend ahead of you! Go to the Agriculture & Food Fair, and then come west and enjoy memorable music, a wonderful display of setting sun and cooling Caribbean breeze. Sunset Jazz in Frederiksted concerts are free, begin at 6:00 p.m. and going for two hours, affords concert goers the opportunity to enjoy the Frederiksted nightlife and restaurants after the show. FEDA is joined in it's efforts to present Sunset Jazz by WTJX/ Channel 12, our local PBS station, who assists every month through their video taping of Sunset Jazz which airs on Channel 12 Saturday nights at 8:00 p.m. As a reminder, Sunny 99.5 fm is the "Official Radio Station of Sunset Jazz," so tune in to stay up to date on all of the jazz happenings! Corporate partners include our newest partner: FirstBank VI! A VERY SPECIAL THANKS goes out to HOVENSA, LLC for making this month's event a reality!
