Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest

The CRABBS (Caribbean Reef Association of Bubble Blowers of St. Croix, Inc.) Dive Club is arranging an UNDERWATER PUMPKIN CARVING CONTEST on October 28, 2007 , beginning at 4 PM in Christiansted harbor, right in front of Kings Alley.

This peculiar event can be enjoyed by divers as well as nondivers. The event is free.

If you wish to carve a pumpkin underwater, bring:
An uncarved unmarked pumpkin
Your dive gear (or you can rent from one of the local shops)
Extra weights to weigh down pumpkins underwater
Your dive certification card
Pumpkin carving tools
Dive light or similar to light up your pumpkin with underwater
Spoon or similar to scoop pumpkin with
Plastic bag for the pumpkin seeds

- Registration for carving divers happens at 4 pm at the boardwalk.
- Divers scoop out guts of pumpkins on the boardwalk (no carving allowed at this time)
- About 5 PM divers do a first 30 minute dive to carve pumpkins underwater. No stencils allowed!
- Divers leave pumpkins underwater and ascend for a surface interval on the boardwalk
- When it gets dark divers do a second dive. They light up the pumpkins. Judges will dive to inspect the pumpkins and a videographer will film the divers and the pumpkins.
- Divers parade the lighted pumpkins underwater alongside the boardwalk.
- Divers and pumpkins ascend.
- Pumpkins will be displayed on the boardwalk.
- Awards ceremony. Awards will be given in the following categories: Scariest, funniest, best lighting effects and best overall.

Where is a good place on St. Croix to buy a pumpkin?

I didn't see any in Food Town earlier this week . . .
