So, I get this in my e-mail, regarding VITEMA testing the Tsunami sirens:

Alert / Warning
Other - Planned Event

...This is an ACTUAL PLANNED EVENT ALERT...

Issued By: VITEMA
Affected Jurisdictions: Virgin Islands

Headline: VI Tsunami Siren Warning System to be Adjusted and Tested This Week, October 17 to 21

The V I Territorial Emergency Management Agency and its contractor, American Signal Corp, will adjust the volume of tsunami sirens installed on all three islands. The work is scheduled for St. Thomas on Monday, St. John on Tuesday, and St. Croix on Wednesday. A full territory wide activation to test the system, will be conducted on Thursday and Friday.

Do not be alarmed when the sirens activate, even if it is done repeatedly. If there is a real emergency, testing of system would immediately cease and no sirens would be activated.

I put that last in bold....OK, lemme get this straight....they're gonna test it to see if it works right and the volume is correct...but if there is a REAL emergency, it won't make any noise at all?? So, how would I know if there is a real emergency, or if the test was just completed?? SMH....

And now it says that the work to adjust the volume would stop...hmmm...

Alert / Warning
Other - Planned Event

...This is an ACTUAL PLANNED EVENT ALERT...

Issued By: VITEMA
Affected Jurisdictions: St. Thomas County

Headline: Tsunami Sirens to be Adjusted and Tested Between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Today on St. Thomas

Between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. today, technicians will adjust the volume on sirens located at the King Airport, Griffith Park, Yacht Haven Sugar Mill and the Red Hook Marina. Sirens will activate throughout the day for this purpose.

Do not be alarmed, this is only an adjustment of the siren system. If a real emergency were to occur, work to adjust the volume of each siren would stop immediately.

So.....does this mean that the volume may be wrong if a real emergency occurred? Or that they won't come on at all? Kinda confusing, don'tcha think?
