Im thinking of moving to your beautiful part of the world. My job requires me to be on several phone lines across the U.S> and Canada. Can anybody give me an idea of long distance rates there?

Thanks!

Well I use a calling card for long distance as it is very expensive down here. The phone company down here is very unreliable. I do use the phone company for local calls though. I just went two weeks with my line crossed with another line, as a result of them doing routine maintence. The only reason it was resolved as soon as two weeks (it would've been much longer) is that the person my line was crossed with is an attorney who threatned the phone company. Although this is a pretty island, I wish I never moved down here bc it is a VERY VERY HARD PLACE TO LIVE. IT IS NOT PARADISE!!!!!!

Long distance on my home phone line that I use only for faxes is 5 cents per minute. The line doesn't have great quality, however. Expect a fair amount of static due to water in the lines. Sometimes I can't use it for faxes for a few weeks after heavy rains.

Long distance on my cell phone is free other than the minutes of usage being billed against my account. Then again, I don't get billed for minutes of usage on evenings, weekends, or to any other Cingular cell phones. A lot of people here only have cell phones and don't bother with land lines. This is partly due to the poor quality of many of the land lines and partly because the cell plans usually include free long distance and no roaming charges. There are periods of time when there are some bad connection lines with cell phones, too, and they regularly oversell the capacity so until they add more hardware to the system we have a harder time getting calls to go through and get recorded error messages. Once they add capacity, things are fine and dandy for another 4-6 months until we go through it all again.

You can buy long distance air cards on the mainland and they will still work here if you are calling through an 800 number.

I use Spring $15 per month unlimited calling back to the United States. For $19.95 per month I could call unlimited to anywhere in the world.

To clarify I do get hit up by Innovative for about $30 per month just to get a dial tone but my unlimited long distance with Sprint back to the U.S. runs $15 per month. I had to call Sprint and ask for it but I got it.

Innovative has a plan that you can pay only 7cents per minute for long distance. I think the plan costs under $5 per month.

it is an additional $4.95 a month and .04cents a minute with innovative on STX or .07 without the long distance plan
