So, I have found a recommended surgeon, but am cautious about the hospital. Does anyone have experience with recent surgey/ after surgery care in JFL Hospital?

I understand your concerns. I have worked in a non clinical position at JFL for the past two year. Like any large organization, it has its good and bad points. Keep in mind we are fully JCAHO accredited, and we are currently preparing for an upcoming accredtitation visit.

If you surgery is planned and scheduled, I think it might be possible to contact the nursing staff on the unit you will be on and express any concerns you might have regarding post op care.

The people here want to do the best they can for the patients. It is a small community hospital, and faces many of the same issues any such facility faces, such as staff shortages, supply issues, etc.

I have several siginifcant medical issues myself, and I wouldn't hesitate to use the services here. And trust me when I tell you, we are our own worst critics.

Thank you for the honest reply. I would prefer my own surgeon but she is in Maine and I can't afford to stay on the Coast for 4 weeks. It would be nice, but I can't pay rent on 2 places when I'm off work. So, I think I am resigned to have the surgery here. I will discuss my concerns with the surgeon here.

Thanks again!

I don't know which surgeon you have been recommended to use. The Chief of Surgery is Dr. Joshua Morowitz. He moved here from Connecticut a couple years ago to take his current position. He has grown children and has been a "mainland" doctor a long time before coming to STX. He's one I would trust to provide me with medical care and/or to recommend another surgeon for a specific need.

Linda: You could always come over to Schneider Regional on St Thomas! 🙂
