about shipping in supplies/shopping when making the move

I have read several things on supply issues and ordering supplies from states side providers.

Is it easier/cheaper to just have family and friends shop and ship to you?

Does Kmart order items that aren't carried in the store for you?

When packing and shipping your householdgoods form thge states to your new residence should you include several boxes of the staples you depend on?

Say my family makes the move and I can only visit, is it worth the effort for me to send a "grandma box" once a month to help out with things not easily found? Does most everyone use the us postal system and is there a big delay in receipt?

I want their move to be a smooth as possible and for them to be able to wean down off things easily. I know this will be a life style change for them.LOL! No more late night Taco Bell.....

Thanks.

I wish my family would send us a box once a month! We had a good thing going for a while until Walmart.com started getting funny with their shipping & amazon stopped allowing the >$25. Ships free thing.
Once in a while ill have a box ship to my parents for them to bring down, or send. They hate it when I do that though.
Packages have to be sent priority mail or expect 4-6 weeks of lag time.... They seem to never grasp that part.
Everything has to come USPS...fed ex and ups think we're international & have to process everything through customs ( you pay an arm & leg extra)

you can find most things on island, it is just a matter of cost.
walmart was good like CAtoSTX said but now things are funny with them and they have such good prices.

When we lived there in the 90's, I went home one time and bought tons of spices. Seemed to me that the spices on island were out of sight in price and I got them so much cheaper in the States. If you do a lot of cooking, as we do, it is worth it to bring those with you! I find most things on island, that is when in stock!
