My husband and I will be moving to St. Thomas in August. Has anyone had any problem with changing their address on their credit cards from stateside to a St. Thomas address?

Thanks.

Nancy

Hello,

We had no problem changing addresses, however if you want to shop online - there is a catch 22. My postal service place has a stateside address that we can have stuff shipped to if the company we are ordering from only ships within the continental U.S. So the problem of getting stuff shipped to us is now - no problem. Which brings me to the problem of payment. If a company will not ship to the VI than most likely they will not accept a VI address on your billing address. I have tried it and it is true. I can have something shipped to me, but I couldn't use my credit card with the billing address in the VI. So we use a stateside address for our credit cards. We pay them automatically online, so we don't worry about getting the mail. The stateside address is my in-laws so they just save the mail for me. I use my address here (STT) for everything else. Confused yet? 🙂 I hope not. But it is a consideration when switching billing addresses.

To prevent credit card fraud many on line stores won't ship to an address other than the credit card's bill to address.

The way to get around this is to register multiple addresses with your credit card company. I have both a stateside and a St Croix address on record. Just give your credit card company a call and this will set you up.

This minimizes the problems I have on getting items shipped.

It also eliminates the problem of their fraud unit thinking someone has skipped to the Caribbean with your credit card. I used to have Citi-Bank calling me all the time.

Just a suggestion.

Teresa and Jim

Thank you for your replies and suggestions. I think what we will do is change a couple to our St. Thomas address and leave a couple stateside with the in-laws. I have started calling the companies I mail order from to see if they ship to St. Thomas.

Teresa, my husband and I can't wait to so to our first get-together. We should be arriving in August which sometimes seems so far away, and other times I go into a panic because it seems just around the corner.

Nancy,

August will be here before you know it. 🙂 I had three months to plan and I needed twelve. Good luck with everything!
