Hi everyone,

Im new on the boards. I've been through most of the old posts just gaining as much knowledge as possible. You all have been a great help. A little background info on me; im 18 (soon to be 19) years old. I went to college for one semester and found out that it wasnt for me and i currently am withdrawn from school. I have relatives that live on STT near magens bay. I have been to the islands on a few occasions and realized that it was exactly what my definition of paradise was. I was thinking about moving to the islands for adventure and gaining real life knowledge while i figure out what direction i want to go with my life. As i read finding jobs is a pretty easy task and i am very self sufficient and a very hard worker and have done many different jobs from working in a car dealership to building houses to washing dishes and food prep. I would be willing to do any job i could get. i just want to know what you all think about my chances for success would be in such a situation. I have a pretty good sum of money saved up and would like to get the cheapest little place to rest my head. My priorities would be to get a place to live a job and maybe even attend UVI. If any one could just give me some general advice or tell me i was crazy that would be great.
p.s. i havent broken the news to the fam yet

Hello Curtis,

Not a crazy plan. You can look for work at the car dealership here, construction and/or restaurant work. You will need to use the money you have saved and come down and then secure work in the fields you mentioned once on island. Get an idea of apartment cost and utilities in our Cost of Living section (click on Home at the top of this page and then you can access it).

Would your family living here be wiling to let you stay with them for a few weeks, help you get settled in? That would be a great plus!

Thanks. My family on the island would love to have me there while i get my feet under me. My real big concern is would someone my age be able to make enough money to pay rent and bills and such? I am willing to have a day job and night job if need be.
