Hi Good Peoples on STX,

This is "remote" as far as reference requests go, I know... But having seen a few older VW beetles on island, does anyone know of a mechanic who is at least familiar with old(er) air-cooled VW engines/etc.?

I *totally* expect to hear the sound of crickets from this post. But I will listen carefully in the night for the sound of anyone who might have some input.

In any case, have a sparkly day.

🙂

And, many thanks for reading.

VW's were the most common vehicle in the VI for many years in the 70's and 80's so I am sure any of the older mechanics on island have an excellent working knowledge - I am on STT so can't recommend any STX mechanics from personal experience but I have owned probably a dozen older VW Bugs over my life here and Never had a problem finding good mechanics to help - unfortunately they are very rust prone and becoming pricy and collectible in the States - but there is a VW club here and I have seen quite a gathering at Magens Bay on occasion.

I think that a group of them hang out on SAt night by the KFC in Sunny Isle. I would stop and ask them. I know there is a guy in Work nad REst that races them but can't describe how to find hos house.
If this doesn't work, try Marvelous Marvin on Centerline Road. He is a good at most cars.
VWs are really simple and easy to work on.
You might also ask Warren the Welder, next to Ram's Autobody, on Hospital Road. He does not work on them but knows most ell mechanics on island.

Many thanks, Exit Zero and terry.... good, interesting, and helpful information from the both of you. I'll scope-out the KFC scene @ Sunny Isle on an upcoming Sat. night for some potential networking/leads, as well speak w/ Marvelous Marvin.
