What? The three Catholic schools are closed today? Can't their God help them?

Truly, unnecessary comment.

All students missing school today are mandated to participate in a six hour educational Skype session led by school staff and guest speakers of the faith.

Obviously, I'm not the religious type. That sounds worse than actually attending class.

If it had been a public school, the days off would not get made up and the students would lose out on another education day.

Looking at the school calendar it looks like the usvi schools has a longer school year than the mainland. Kids here go to school between 175-180 days depending on the school district. AND many of the school districts have a mandatory 1/2 day of school once a week. And from what I tried to make out from the USVI school calendar, it looks like the kids go to school there at least 190 days a year. Am I correct?

The private schools don't follow the public school calendar and have fewer in-class days. I'm not sure why public schools have so many more days. However, I am a supporter of year round schooling with much shorter breaks.
