It appears that the budget / financial crisis and the coming affects of the Hovensa closing are solved. Since the Senate approved an increase in the Gross Receipts tax and permitting the Governor to borrow more money, they have moved on to more important things.

Actually, this one seems rather interesting ...

Bill No. 29-0153– An Act to establish a free-standing casino within the Christiansted Enterprise Zone

It is also interesting in regards to the proposed casino(s) for STT and STJ. However, these will not materialize over night. And the biggest fear might be that the new casinos would be operated by the USVI government. Another fox in the hen house?

Not to be confrontational, but out of curiousity, do you have a source on this info?

Edit: typo.

I thought I read something to that effect in the Source or VI Daily, but I can't locate it. As a minimum, any new casino would be "controlled" by the government with all of the scrutiny of the nay-sayers on the subject. I'm neither for or against, but I don't think a bunch of new casinos will be the silver bullet to fiscal security.
