Hi all. Are there any teachers on this forum who would be willing to share their experience(s)? Thank you!

buck, public and private teachers welcome. I really would like a better idea of how the public schools are on STX or STJ.

Thanks.

soccerrprp -

I am a teacher in FL and while I was in STX in November, I visited meowruff's school for a day to get a feel for the differences between the States and STX schools. I was very impressed with the level of technology in this particular school - the classrooms that I saw had computer projectors set up and in use and they have been using an online reading program that we just got this year for the last three years. The students (5th grade for the most part) were very polite and generally seemed hard working and there was a parent in the class - she says she spends about a day a week in her daughter's classroom to help out. This happens to be one of the top performing elementary schools on STX so I don't know how typical my impressions were, but I was surprised at how much like our schools in the States it was.

There are only 2 schools in STJ to my knowledge.
One is private, Gift Hook School, and the other public and whose name I can't recall. Both are elementary as kids must ferry to STT to attend high school.

Maybe someone from STJ will chime in.

what is nice down here is that parents at some jobs can get 2 hours a month paid by employer to spend time at the school.

Gift Hill School in STJ has been graduating Seniors from the 12th Grade since 2004.

Obviously, I'm way behind the times on Gift Hill School!

Here's a link to the VI Source article on VI budget woes worsening teacher shortages.

Thank you all.

@FLLisa. Interesting. I spent a week down on St. Croix, but didn't have the time to visit schools, go inside that is. Good to hear. Now, perhaps we can find housing near that school.

Anyone. Are there school districts that determine where your child will attend?

Thanks all!
