Anyone import a pet bird to island?

I'm thinking about making a move to STX. I have a pet Macaw and two Amazon parrots. Anyone have any ideas for a sensible way to get them there? I wouldn't mind a slow boat from anywhere, I just can't bear the thought of my babies in a crate somewhere in the baggage section of an airplane. Thanks.

Friends brought a smallish bird last year -- a peach faced something. They carried it in a small carrier on the plane without problem.

they had a vet give them something to give the bird to keep it calm.

But that would only work with small birds.

Good luck.

tony,

when we moved here we had a parakeet that did much traveling with us around the u.s. just before we moved here. this was before 9/11 and things at airports were not so tight as they are know. what we did although i'm quite sure it is not by the rules, was to get the biggest carry on allowable and put him in there and carry him on the plane when we got on. i know your birds are biggewr than ours was, but one very funny side note, as we sat on the runway in detroit tropical bird tunes started coming from the over head luggage rack. all the passengers thought it was music to relax them before the take off,we got a big chuckle from that one, but he successfully took upwards of ten flights. i wonder what the xray machine operators were thyinking.

on a more serious note dr. duke deller 772-4781 could probably assist you, he worked with many government agenccies in the veterinarian field and could probably help you the best.

Thanks, I found a web site for regulations regarding importing animals. I guess what I'm looking for is the best way to transport them.
