Greetings! My boyfriend and I currently reside in Culebra, PR. At present time, we are traveling in Australia, but will return to the Caribbean in November. We are looking to relocate to St. John and are in need of a long term rental. We would prefer a one bedroom apartment, but a studio would be sufficient. Do you have any suggestions on how to begin the hunt? Websites or people to contact? Any information would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Although you have to watch out for scams, craigslistvi is a good resource, along with the classified section on this forum. The Island Trader is a free weekly advertising paper which comes out every Thursday, and the Virgin Islands Daily News daily newspaper is also a good resource. You can also access the Daily News online at www.virginislandsdailynews.com. When on St John, the mail box service, "Connections" has an active bulletin board where apartments are advertised.

Don't take anything sight unseen. Best you stay in a short-term place for a couple of weeks while looking around. Good luck!

It's hard to find a place unless you are on island. I don't recommend renting a place sight unseen. Connections has a board with listings, but you can also call Scenic Properties at 340-693-7777. They have the largest long term rental company on island.

For a pre move visit, or short term accommodations, I would suggest Samuel Cottages. They are close to town, so you wouldn't need a car, and they are affordable.

For a PMV, I suggest Star Villas which are within walking distance to town but in a very nice neighborhood, right up the hill from Gallows Point and Frank Bay. See www.starvillas.com or call Marlene & Bob at 340-776-6704 for inquiries or e-mail [email protected]
