Hello Christian,

Since your girlfriend already has a job here I am guessing you guys have some insight into it being a US territory with US Federal Immigration laws, needing a work permit and the process for this. If not, you should check out the website for US Immigration Services at http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis for information.

Bartending, not sure you would get a business to sponsor you for a work permit in that field (pretty sure that is how it works). Lots of bars and restaurants so bartender jobs exists, however there are people here already that fill that need and also some folks from the US mainland come down during high tourist season to work - often in restaurants/bars.

Design field, here is a suggestion: The AIA VI chapter has a website at http://www.aiavi.org/. It contains member lists and some have email listed; you could try contacting some of the architects/firms. You might contact the officers of the chapter and see if they can help with job openings and information on work permits for that field.

Hope that is of some help,

--Islander

Hi Islander,

first of all I would like to thank you for answering so fast an your tips in generell.Unfortunately it told me exactly that what i suspected. The archtecture and design sector would be the only chance for me to move and get a work permit and even that would be very unsure. Maybe you know some other sectors where I can try to get a job? Maybe something in the tourism sector where my native language could also represent an advantage?
However,I am willing to do erverything that allows me to move to St.Thomas....

Thanks for your help.

greetings,

Chris
