I've seen some cool jailbreaks for iPhone. But it is still the OS you currently have. Just some cooler features and no bloatware.

Yeah my 4GS will quickly connect when I flip airplane mode on then off. It also connects on its own it just takes its sweet time.

3GS is being cranky and has a problem connecting even when phone is power cycled.

There is no such thing as an iPhone 4GS.

iPhone models are:
iPhone
iPhone 3G
iPhone 3GS
iPhone 4
iPhone 4S
iPhone 5

Jim Dandy:

Now that you've had a week of use of the MicroCell -- can you sum up your experience ?

(This is just a cheap way to bump what I think is a very useful bit of tech for many parts of the VI.)

The MicroCell is working well with my Iphone 4G. To make it connect immediately when I'm inside I have to turn airplane mode on, count to ten then switch airplane mode off. I am then connected. I have switched the automatic hand off option off on the MicroCell. My phone still sometimes still reconnects to AT&T directly if I am in a strong signal area inside near a window and not near the MicroCell.

Calls sound fine. I have a stable 5Mbps down 2 Mbps up connection from BBVI. I have my MicroCell located near a window on the side of my home opposite the AT&T cell tower. It is connected to my router using Ethernet over powerline.

I get good data through put when on the MicroCell though it is faster when I use my WiFi connection. Texting works fine.

The MicroCell seldom connects with my 3GS regardless of what I do. AT&T has said there is nothing further they can do. It is a known issue with Apple phones particularly 3G & 3GS models regardless of what software version they are running. It was a problem with V5 and still an issue with V6.1.3.

The MicroCell only works with 3G/4G capable cell phones using an AT&T SIM and the phone must be on a monthly plan. No GoPhones.
Be sure the phones you have our 3G. Just because the SIM card says 3G or 4G it is the radio in the phone that makes the phone 3G.

I will probably keep the MicroCell as it does work and my primarily use/need is for when AT&T service is off line. I don't know how it will work since knock on wood we haven't had an outage in the past week. My wife is do for a phone upgrade so I will probably replace her 3GS with a 4G or 5.

Ok....So here is my MicroCell story. Based on the success described above, I purchased the ATT MicroCell. (I already have one of these in New York City where is works GREAT -- and by the way, ATT cell service is way better on STX than in New York.....but I digress.).I hook it up, then call the special ATT MicroCell folks (the option appears when you phone in after you register the MicroCell online.). I give them digital coordinates. They say 'go' and I go....although that takes a while.

So the Internet, GPS and power lights all come on solid green. But the GSM (link to the cellphone) light keeps blinking green....and no "M-Cell" on my Iphone display instead of "ATT." Reboot the phone. Try the airline setting.......nada.

Three calls later, I have moved it to the other side of our place, unplugged and re-plugged everything in my system 4 times and changed 5 truly arcane router settings. So now I am waiting....a day now....for them to call back. I even asked if it might just be a bad unit, but was told "no," they are working on something on their end.

Not complaining.....just reporting. Still very happy it works here. You have got to give it to rhem....they must have 10 hours in on getting this to work....very dedicated to the concept.

Yes they are very dedicated.

I was having a problem and they don't understand how we get the Internet from BBVI using WiFi and an external radio. Since it wasn't a cable modem or DSL one support person wanted to blame that for the cause of all my problems.

It is working OK now, but the real reason I bought it was for when AT&T's tower goes down to be able to continue using my cell phone, i.e get incoming calls. Still have my MagicJack as a plan C to make out going calls and if necessary tell people to call me on this number.
