Aug or October for PMV?

I was wondering if anyone has an opinion as to whether August or OCtober is a better time for a visit. The resort we want to stay in is closed in September, which was when we were originally going to come over. Now we are trying to decide whether to come earlier, or later. I would rather come earlier, but would love to get opinions from this board about when you think is the best time to visit.

Thanks!

August is much more prone to hurricanes as its that time of year so you may want to give that some serious thought. My brother in law went to the islands one year just that month and did get caught in a hurricane and needless to say, didn't have a ton of fun toughing it out in a cement bunker someplace.

Beth,
In addition to the hurricane potential, A lot of people are off island in August. Because it's about the slowest month of the year touristwise (I think I coined a new word),that's when many islanders take their vacations.

However...I came to STT/STJ in Sept 02...

Beautiful weather (Isabel looming, but passed)...weather was fantastic.

A lot of places at the time were closed for the season on STJ...including the Cinnamon Bay campground for the month...

Some businesses and restaurants were closed for Sept on STJ.

Thank you all for the advice. We are really torn. On the one hand, I want to come to St. Croix *RIGHT NOW*, as in today :), on the other hand, the earliest we can do it, workwise (see Ric, it works for almost any noun) is August. My heart says August, my brain says October.

We will let you know.
