I am relocating to St Croix at the end of October to began a new job there and wonder if I might find a auto to lease or rent on long term vs shipping mine

Probably cheaper to ship than lease or rent Kong term.

Any of the car dealers or rental agencies do long term.

What do you consider long term? If more than 6 months, then I would agree, ship your car as long as it's paid off. It would probably cost you well over $1000.00 a month to rent a car.

Ship your car. Forget about long term rentals it will cost a fortune. What ever you do stay away from Caribbean Auto Mart.

Is vehicle all paid off? If not, your lender must allow shipping.
Get several originals of that doc as it seems all the various agencies you'll have to go thru will want an original and not a copy.

You'll have to pay for shipping, customs duty if it's foreign made (or any part thereof is foreign made). The VIN# will identify. You'll have to pay road tax, get insurance before you can have vehicle inspected to register at Motor Vehicle Bureau. Don't forget to get the $5 moving permit to move from shipper to inspection lane.

The majority of car rental agencies will lease long term but it may very well be more expensive to rent. Depends on your car and length of time you will be here.

Good luck whichever way you go.

Thank everyone for your response and from all my research I have decided to just purchase one after I am relocated.

It will be more expensive to buy a good, reliable vehicle here.

Yes and the most important part of that sentence is good and reliable!

Hey Sims,
If you rent our apartment, maybe we can work out a rental on our 2008 Toyota Tacoma. We love our truck, but are going to be gone for about 9 months. I have been trying to reach our insurance company to see what we would need to do. PM me or email [email protected] if you want to discuss.
Thanks,
