Michael,

Congrats. on the move. I'll be arriving myself the next day, the 15th. I can't help you with the banking thing, but if you find a temp place let me know where it's at. I'm still hunting for a place myself. Let me know where you'll be and we can get together for a drink and brainstorm the apartment hunting thing. Two heads are better than one. Best of luck with the move man. CRAZY!! isn't it?

Main Banks (in no particular order)
FirstBank
Banco Popular
Bank of Nova Scotia (ScotiaBank)

Also, bring lots of cash/traveler's checks; or leave in place arrangements to wire money when needed. When we arrived, some banks would not allow us to open an account until we had a physical address and proof of it. When we deposited a check, it took a minimum 14 days before it became "available" for us to use. This can be a real PITA when you're trying to write checks for deposits on apartments, utilities, etc.

I recall Banco Popular being the easiest to work with; and they still have our business. But to be fair, FirstBank was not here then (they have since bought out other banks).
