Belvedere area near Cane Bay and a very different result from SkysTheLimit's speed just a couple of hundred yards away from me. But I am only paying for the basic service also.

Jim Dandy, do you have a different bandwidth package? Ours is about the same as SkysTheLimit. East End STX.

Must be nice!
I just got 6.93 download and 1.77 upload.
No where near the double digits some of you are experiencing!

Soon we will be able to get 5 Mb for $30/month from innovative. The fibre is nearly installed. Orbitell is setting up as an ISP. What's better than competition? I wonder how BBVI adapt?

This is for the $99.95 package. Maybe it's time to upgrade.

Bombi, JE, and Poodle: I think your speed (1.5Mbps down and 0.6Mbps up) is the standard, correct speed for the basic package from BBVI.

STXBob is correct, the upgraded speeds are for BBVI Plus customers on STX only.
We will be rolling out STT/STJ next week.

Yes I have what was the 5 Mbps package for $99 per month. BBVI has only recently rolled the speed change out on STX so its possible it isn't universal yet.

My speed does vary somewhat. I currently tested again and just got 18 Mbps. At slower times of day before lunch I often get 25 - 28 Mbps. I just downloaded a 89 Mb update for Itunes and could not believe how fast it was.

I am ecstatic with the higher speeds. Even before the speed increase I was able to stream, Netflix and Amazon in HD with no buffering during prime time using my Roku.

FYI Bombi : The Evo Fiber Optic package is listed on Innovative's web site as costing $79 per month. If it is bundled as a part of a triple play It probably will effectively be cheaper. Of course you will have to accept an inferior video product. Innovative is still only offering just 14 HD channels in Evo vs. the 69 I get from Dish for less money.

Also for those of you not getting the really higher speeds check your home network. Connect a PC directly to the BBVI radio and see if you get higher speeds. If you do then it may be time to upgrade you LAN.

It always pays to read the OP. Clearly states that you need the $99 plan and that it is on just STX for now.

Money doesn't necessarily buy you happiness (exception might be if you bought the winning lottery ticket in Florida) , but it will buy you a faster Internet connection from BBVI.

30MB DL! impressive. Don't even get that with comcast. They say you do but I average 25. Still 25 MB isn't anything to sneeze at.

This is awesome I was getting depressed. I was doing research last week and thought the best I was going to get was 5 mbs. Moving to St. Croix July 23rd.

I love online gaming and Netflix (I get 90mbs and 74 upload currently so I am spoiled). However a part of me just wants to give up the internet for awhile and read a good book on the beach.

Netflix and Amazon streaming worked fine with BBVI at their old speed of 5 Mbps. I seldom or ever had any buffering issues. BBVI has always been very stable and speeds consistent which IMHO is more important than raw download speeds. I even have friends that stream using BBVI's 1.5 Mbps service and have no complaints streaming in SD.

Gaming with players stateside maybe an issue. The fact that is is 1,100 miles to Miami adds approximately 60 ms to your ping time. Not being a gamer I can't tell you for sure what this will do to your gaming experience.

I will hope for the best but assume the worse. Thanks for all the info.

in alaska I never had better than 110ms latency (thats .1 second) and it worked FINE! so at 80ms (or so) to FL... that.s .08 seconds
