Our 9 year old Hyundai has never been seen broken down on the side of the road, or anywhere else. One short in the electrical system in all that time is all we've encountered. And we're real procrastinators when it comes to maintenance. Now, I do sometimes have to ask passengers to get out and help push it up steep hills. But all in all it's been a much more reliable car than the one Toyota we owned.

The GM issues may be a result of no more GM dealership on-island. Not sure whose providing maintenance for them anymore, but rumors have been circulating that since Metro bought out Caribbean Auto Mart, that another GM dealership might be in the works. I hope so.
I maintain my own 09' 4x4 Chevy pickup and am very happy with it. We havent had any major issues with it so far. Our life here would be difficult indeed without it.
