Does anyone have information on bird (Duck, Quail) hunting in the American VI? I've done a lot of googling and there is duck hunting but Id like to know if its worth bringing my shotgun and waders when I re-locate there.

I cant find much info so either it isnt very good or it's just not very popular.

Thanks

What ducks or quail?? The only real "hunting" is fishing here. You're going to be very disappointed if you can't go without it. You really should do a pre move visit or at least read this message board completely before moving here. The people I know that hunt have always hated it here.

I hear nothing about hunting down here. Has anyone considered taking out a Buck? I have seen about 6 deer at a time in the yard and on several occasions 3 buck together. One is a large 8-point that could take a trip to the anally farms butcher shop. I know how the Gov feels about fire arms but a Bow?

Also just getting a gun in is a nightmare. I know you think you've done your research but I think you need to keep reading this message board. Read it like you would a book. It doesn't matter if the dates are old, usually all that changes here is the restaurant/bar owners. You will find answers to questions you never thought to ask. There are so many quirky and frustrating things about living here that even with all of our amazing natural beauty our transplants usually stay a year or two at most. I think it's better to be prepared but I know some people don't like that, so to each their own.

Main things are come with plenty of cash but don't burn through your retirement savings, no debt, don't burn your bridges back home, don't bring a ton of stuff, don't buy a condo/house your first year, and have fun.

Looking at that 08 thread, I wonder what ever happened to alaskaguy. And looking at the subject of this thread, I am imagining someone in the bush with field glasses, checking out a brown-throated parakeet saying, "Hey, hun...hey, hun...":P

It looks like you have to have a permit to take out any native animal:

Also you are suppose to have a permit to prune native trees. What a joke. The yard guys are going to have to fill out a lot of paper work.
