The Mardi Croix parade on Saturday (2/25) was great fun.

All of the spectators and participants joined in the celebration.

Necklaces of beads, colored coconuts and even bottles of Virgin

Island beer were handed out to the crowd. Everyone had the chance

to enjoy Jumbalaya, roti and sausages along the beach at Cane Bay.

This is the kind of activity that brings out Cruzians in all sizes

shapes and colors. I didn't stay late so I don't know how wild it

became, but early on it was fun for all ages. This was not a

parade for the tourists, but a chance for old friends to meet and

greet each other. Right now our dining table has a centerpiece

featuring a blue coconut garlanded with colorful plastic beads.

Thanks for the report about one of the most fun events on STX (imo). My Dad is in Alabama for the winter months, and his crowd travels to Mississippi and Louisiana for Mardi Gras events, in addition to taking part in all of the local activities. Can't wait to tell him tonight as I get the daily bead count that the one thing I'll be he doesn't see being handed out anywhere in these three states is brightly colored coconuts!

Would love to see a photo of your new centerpiece if you have the means to post a pic.....

I unfortunately have to choose 'outings' carefully, but am so glad you took the time to give a sense of what Mardi Gras is like. Next year, I will put it on my "must go" and plan around it so I can have the ability to do so.

Sounds great, fun and people-bonding for us Crucians!

Thanks again,

Daniel
