Merry Christmas to all.
My Girlfriend and I are thinking about moving to the VI in 08 and we have a small boat cleaning and detail business. I was wondering if there are/or how many such business there are down there. We would like to work on boats 50' and larger. I know the new marina by the cruise ship docks cater to some of the nicest yachts in the world. Would the Marina itself be hiring people to do such work. She does the interiors and I do the exterior. I also have Machining experience.I.E. Welding, Lathe, bridgeport, drill press, and overall general Maint. Any info or links would be most appreciated.
One more thing while I have you here. What can anyone tell me about the Fortuna area? IE: types of homes, apartments, and rent/purchase programs. Again thank you for any feedback or links on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time on your Christmas Day to read this. I wish all board members a Happy Holiday and a prosperous, safe New Year.
Feliz Navidad,
Deck Monkey

Hi Deckmonkey,

Just a few things to give you some help, hopefully. Yacht Haven Grande is the name of the marina near Havensight; another marina you may want to check is Crown Bay Marina. I know that both usually advertise in the VI Daily News for employment but you may want to check out their sites. Just google them...

Fortuna is a quiet place to be...about 10 minutes to get to the airport from there. Mostly small, concrete block homes, some with attached apartments. The best place to find any rentals on island, no matter what part, is the Island Trader. Not a bad drive from Crown Bay or Yacht Haven, but if you start getting into marinas on the East End, that is quite a trek from Fortuna (my husband and I live there, so we know first hand!!).

Good luck finding out info....

Thank you pilatesgal for the response. I appreciate it very much. Do you like living in The Fortuna area? Is the crime rate realitive to the whole island or are there less instances there? We are in our late 40's and I lived in Mafolie for a few years back in the late 80's and early 90's. Liked it there. But due to family matters I had to come back Mainland. As far as storm protection goes, is the Fortuna area fairly well proctected? Sorry for all the questions but the way I was brought up is there is no stupid question except the one you do not ask.
I have checked through the VI phone book and gotten the #'s and in some instances the websites. I plan to make a pmv sometime in March to check things out. if anyone out there has a suggestion on a realtor to help in this process please send me a link.
Well I have taken up enough of your time and again thank you for the response . I hope that you have a safe and Happy New Year. All the best,

Deck Monkey
