Breezes on STT

Were still up in the air BUT it looks very likely were gonna end up on STT. Im excited either way LOL! We may be doing a quick week long PMV at the end of this month too, in order to look for a place and get a lay of the land. My question is with the extreme hilly STT landscape are there "sides" (East - West - North) that get better breezes? We dont mind a drive to work but want a place higher up with nice breezes, and nothing too "cluttered" like downtown.

The Northside is nice & breezy. We don't need A/C up here & I find myself wrapped in a sweatshirt & blankets during the winter months:-)

East facing is best.

easy enough thanks! What are some of the possible "non cluttered" neighborhoods/towns? Outside of red hook a good choice? I found some great rentals in our range overlooking Magens Bay too.

The breeze thing is dependant upon the orientaion and lay out of the particular unit. For uncluted check out West(the country) and north. Freanchmans Bay (south) Some parts of the east, like Cabrita point. North side. Rent a stddio condo for month or two. Explore. talk to folks. y ou'll find a nice place.

Thanks Blu! Will keep a look for those areas. I did find 3 rentals I like for 1600 all in which works with our budget. We will be bringing our 2 babies (pound kitties) which I know will make a place harder to find. If my boyfriend gets offered the position (we will know in 2 weeks) they will be flying him (I will tag along) out for a couple days which we will extend into a week. I am HOPING to pound the pavement and find a place to rent at that time and put down the $. It may not be realistic but thats what I am gonna try for, so that we have a place to land as soon as were on island. STT does seem to offer a lot of rentals. Not knowing which island right now is killing me thou lol. I am confident either way that it will be a lot of fun. If we do land on STT I wonder if I can get a job in at coral world with all my knowledge... sans marine bio degree. Would LOVE to work in that field somehow and do some propagation of corals and such. Would be AMAZING and I can imagine I would never want to leave if I did that for a living lol. EXCITED!!!

AandA - the apartment hunt CAN be done in a few days... It's not ideal, but we did it in 3 days over 2 weekends.

North and northeast sides of islands and how the home is situated will allow good breezes.
The higher the elevation, the cooler it is as well.
I always think the east (can be breezy depending) and south sides are drier and hot.
West end a long commute. Northside gets my vote.

I concur. In almost 30 years I've lived on the South side, East End, "country" (East) and the North side and at different elevations. Never even looked at anything on the far West end as it's always been remote to where I've been working. Have had friends who've lived out there but it's rather arid out that way and if you suddenly run out of milk it's quite a ride to grab a pint! Much cooler on the North side but if you're down low or the accommodation doesn't have good airflow you might encounter mildew issues. Been there done that and it was a pretty miserable experience.

There are so many variables where location is concerned and there simply aren't any easy answers. You find what suits you, settle in and then, if it turns out that it's not what you were expecting, you keep looking and move on once your lease is up.

A couple of the retals we are hoping to be able to look at are higher up around Magen's bay. I was looking at a nice one in tabor and harmony too. How's the Mandahl area? I can't do a condo, rather really don't want to, so I'm looking for a house or an apt in a house.

Good to know CAtoSTX. Are you on STX now?

East facing is best.

Why?

Do you mean your apt./house facing east?

Higher up with a Magen's view should be very good for breezes. Mandahl is nice, there are a couple of valleys you could get stuck in without much breeze but mostly good. Tabor & Harmony is nice super close to Office Max so if you find a nice place there it could be an ideal location - easy drive to Coral World as well. Coral World does advertise for positions from time to time, definitely worth getting in touch with them.

Northside is usually a good area for people just arriving and want to get acclimated to tropical temps. IMHO its the coolest area on island, basically a nice area, and convenient to a lot. Though Tart is so right about the mildew issues. Higher up can be really good!

Good luck!
