Another interesting article about hospital and its CEO. This time it's a vanity PH.D story. I am puzzled why some institutions here bring "expertise" from the mainland but they pick the wrong people. The CEO makes $400K before bonuses and perks. That seems to be a competitive salary for a small hospital. So why does the board pick applicants with questionable credentials?

Last year same hospital brought in an de-licensed consultant physician who is now facing three manslaughter charges in GA.

I don't have a definitive answer but in my opinion it's simply sloppy business practice based on laziness. Not properly checking references and qualifications (other than cursorily looking over a reference or certification document - all of which can be easily produced on a computer) isn't uncommon in all arenas. Particularly in this day and age when facts can so easily be checked, it's mind-boggling.
