Business License Help
I am looking for information concerning a business license for St Thomas. I have called and left a note on the contact page for the VI government website but have received no answer. I am looking to start a business that will not have a particular location. I guess you could call it a street side vendors license but I haven't seen anything like that on the site. It will be a mobile business. It is not food related and does not require any specific licensing. There will be no place for fire or health inspections so I don't know how to get past the first few steps. There is the possibility that I could partner up with several businesses in the area but that would be in the future. If anyone knows of a mobile vendors business license or something of the sort I would appreciate a response. Thank you. Greg

You should stop in to the office and see what they say. It is a bit of a painful process but at the same time everyone I dealt with was very nice and very helpful at DLCA here on STX. There are just so many organizations that have to come together to get a business license, the IRB is usually the slowest one (tax clearance letter) in my experience.

Also, everyone should be aware that attempting to contact any USVI government entity by electronic means is almost always a waste of time. Imagine the way the Internet was 15 years ago. That's how it's treated down here.
If you are not here to do it in person --- eye to -- eye- With some serious intent and people to people skill --- it won't happen via the internet. Not here in the VI ,not now.
Thanks for all of the quick responses. Sounds like face to face is the way to go. Is it a couple of months process or can you get it done in a week or two? Is a phone and a fax a silly idea? Thanks for the book idea. I might have to take a look at it. I sincerely appreciate the responses.
If you have not lived here for one year, you may need to get a resident agent that has a real address. It took me 4 months longer than i anticipated to get a bus lisc here. You will need to run here, run there, get this signed, get fire inspections etc etc. I run a business out of my house and i had to get an agent with a local address. Even though i dont work there, i have a phone line there and had to make sure my agent got his updated lisc and checks before i could get my lisc. Different lisc have different requirements as well.... food, liquer, importing goods, sales and solicitation etc etc.
Ask for Horace Graham in the DLCA office in golden rock, he helped quite alot with the process, in fact everyone in that office was very helpful.
