i am thinking about opening a small business in usvi, does anyone know how quickly importing things happen?

That all depends on where your stock is coming from. If you get it through Miami and use Tropical Shipping, it takes a week from when the boat leaves Miami to come to St. Croix. You can get anything shipped there (i have used it before and had a good experience for 2 items) and they receive it, check it against your invoice, and ship it down.

Remember there are added taxes on items "NOT" made in the USA which are brought into the VI.

I like VI Cargo and use them when I have to. It can be expensive though. Yesterday in addition to paying $11 for shipping a seven pound box it was another $17 in taxes on a $279 faucet manufactured in Israel. GBH had plenty of faucets, but I had to humor the significant other and get just the right look..
