Buying a STT car for STX: Tips?

I'm on STX and casually looking for a new car. CraigsList has a number of candidates on STT. I can find a decent check-out mechanic on STT, but I wonder about the best way to handle registration transfer from one island to the next. I've shipped cars from the States a few times, and I've shipped other people's vehicles between islands, but I've never bought one myself.

Does anyone have experience that they can share? Tips? Recommendations? Thanks!

Hummm I THINK you'd have to go to STT get insurance and have title put in your name there. The shipping company won't ship it if the title isn't in your name. Good news is tickets to STT - just bought one for $89.

Call the DMV on STX and they should be able to give you the answer. I'm assuming your main concern is transferring the paperwork when both seller and buyer are supposed to be present. You can use an expediter to handle it (cost is around $100) if necessary.

Just a heads up I been on stx a week looking for a car, and while I found a few seemingly good ones on Craigs I've heard from many reliable locals that most are scams not to use craigs. Once hearing responses I can kinda tell too, most offer to ship the car from stt with title and offer a week to decide. Not gonna lose the 600 and see no show. Most have same ole story too, family needs surgery so selling at low cost yada yada

I read most of the cars for sale on C-list and usually the ones listed in STT have pictures from obvious stateside locations - the only ones I even consider show USVI license plates, or a location I recognize on island and have a local phone #.
