Caller ID ATT

I have a 340 area code ATT Motorola Gophone. Caller ID only works for calls from other ATT wireless phones. ATT technical service and MOT can't explain it. The most recent posts on this topic from 3 years old so does anyone have a solution or should I dump my 340 number?
