All my life I have wanted to live on either St. Johns or St. Thomas. I am now 48 and my first trip was at age 10 with my parents and then every year untill I was 17 and my mother died of cancer at age 39. I have since returned alone 3 times and in April brought my son (27) to see the beauty I have found every time.
I run a resort on Canandaigua Lake in the Finger Lakes of New your State.I run the 2 restaurants and the Inn.I am
finding the winters to be getting much longer and our season getting shorter. We are closing for the first time in January and February of 2005 and my husband and myself want to come down and live for 2 months and maybe make your island our home.I work 16 hours a day now and I know I could bring a wonderful change to any resort or Inn with my ability to make
people happy. I need some help in finding a small apartment to live for 2 months so I can check everything out and make some solid choices for my future. It would be only 2 of us with no pets. How do I get in touch with some of the resorts for management openings! Thank you all for all your help in advance and please lets stay in touch.

I moved here from Hemlock lake just a few miles west of you. Im sure you know where it is. That was almost 13 years ago. Have no regrets. And no i dont miss the winters at all. Dont know how long you have been reading this board. There is alot of information here. Listen to islander and ronnie. They seem to know everything and i always tell it like it is. Feel free to email me with any ? How much you looking to pay per month, nice areas ,ect . You should not have any problem finding a job at any resort, with your background

Hi Jim,
Thank you for your reply! I do know where your lived, nice area like here in Canandaigua.
I need only a small studio or 1 bedroom somewhere near Red Hook. That is the area I know the best but again I am open to any thing that is pretty safe. When I get there I can really search for something for the future but you know it doesn't matter. Just to have a small comfortable spot is all I really need. I can turn it into something really special.I would like to spend around 600.00 to 700.00 a month if possible. I have been reading the message board for quite awhile now but in regards to cell phone service I still need a little help.
What made you leave the states to live on the islands and what do you do ther if you don't mind me asking? How is the weather in general around October? Go to my website at www.thendarainn.com and see the Inn I run. Keep in touch.

Wow what abeautiful place your inn ,but i do understand your desire , I to have this burning desire to live and work on St. John or if not there St. Thomas . I was there 2 times and fell in love both times and cried when i left on the 1:15 ferry back to reality. It was a exp for me that has changed me. Iam a mom of 3 kids and 1 grand daughter who is a princess to me , I cannot leave them yet , but I plan to. one day and I to would lovw to work in the hotel B&B type of setting . I would love to see peoples faces when they are enjoying the time there. Have you been to caneel bay ? Yolanda 🙂

Lorie: January and February are high season here. Most rentals are for 6+ months, except for the shorter term, week-long rentals. You might try to contact one of the real estate companies that deal with those. I would be surprised if you could find anything for $700 that time of year. You might want to look at the Villa Fairview website (villafairview.com) as they deal in the length of stay you are contemplating.

Thank-you both for taking time to write. I have been to Caneel Bay many times years ago. It was my mothers favorite place in the world to go. Like I had mentioned she died at the young age of 39 and my father took me back to Caneel to keep here alive in our hearts. As an adult I have been back to Caneel once and to the Morning Star a few times and Blazing Villas this year. I was booked at Secret Harbour but 7 days before I was to come to the islands they moved me and relocated me to the Grand Beach Plaza.
Not a day goes by when I don't check airlines and this message board and many other sources to get ready for this move. I guess I am not alone when it comes to the love so many people feel for St. Thomas and St. Johns. I have worked so hard all my life and I know if able to spend the rest of my life on the islands I will probably work harder yet just to know at the end of the day I can look out and see the most beautiful sunsets in the world.
Keep in touch and when I do get there I will have everyone over for an upstate New York style welcome home party!

Lorie
