I was recently slandered at my work place. I have witnesses and signed statements supporting my claim. I gave the person every opportunity to apologize. He won't. Now I'm mad and want to put an end to it. I want to sue both him and the organization. I need legal representation. Who does this sort of thing. The only thing I've ever used a lawyer for has been real estate transactions.. Any suggestions?

you could go to lawyers.com , they have a search feature where you type in where you live and you get a list of lawyers.

Lee Rohn is a pitbull I hear.

Brit Bryant

Vince Colianni

I would call a few and ask a few questions. Then decide.

That's just the tip of the iceberg. No shortage of lawyers here!

Lee Rohn? She is who the heavy hitters use.

I like Vince myself.

I know Lee has a reputation for going after the heavy hitters. Like Hovensa.

I like Vinnie too.

Thanks, I was thinking of Lee Rohn. I really don't want to do this but I've worked hard to maintain my integrity and don't wish for some misinformed loud mouth to tarnish my character. I have been going through several cooling off periods and will give it the weekend to allow him a last chance to apologize as any gentleman would be expected to but if not then I'll peruse legal action. Maybe that will bring some sense to this man.
I keep having the thought that it may be less expensive to just have him beat up for a couple hundred dollars.

You may want to find out who represents your organization before you start speaking with lawyers. You wouldn't want to "tip off" the lawyer who would be representing the organization in any case you might bring.

divinggirl has good advice. In a small community, definitely check who's playing for which team!

Also, it's probably not the best idea to post things like "I keep having the thought that it may be less expensive to just have him beat up for a couple hundred dollars." -- even anonymously on the Internet (and there's really no such thing). When you're undertaking legal action against someone, best to say as little as possible about the matter to as few people as possible. A statement like that is very easy to manipulate in all kinds of ways that would be very bad for you.

Good luck, Bombi. Sorry this is happening.

oopps, good advice. of course the $200 thing was a bad attempt at humor. With contemplation the rage seems to be diminishing.

Do you really want to give this jerk so much power over your life? Think of the time, energy, and $$$ it will take to pursue this. I would definitely take a little time to reflect on the best course of action for YOU.

Bombi,
Slander/Defamation cases tend to be difficult to win, and damage awards tend to be small, as a result it is unusual for Attorneys to be willing to take a defamation case on a Contingent Fee Basis, and the fees expended in litigating even a successful defamation action can far exceed the total recovery. Only 10% of all slander cases filed win! "Not Good Odds"

One other thing I forgot to mention, In the Federal Court System there is a little thing called Fee Shifting, Loser Pays attorney fees for the winner.

Lizard I discovered the bad odds in a few online articles and it probably isn't worth the expense. Currently I'm working within the organization to find a resolution. The organization met and discussed the issue and sort of censuring him and suggested that he apologize. He made not even a half hearted attempt saying he was misunderstood. Enough stakeholders have heard about the incident through the coconut telegraph so that his embarrassment may satisfy my need for fairness.
