My wife and I run a small marine canvas shop on Key West in Florida. We are looking to relocate the business to the Red Hook section of St. Thomas. What are our chances of finding a commercial location of about 500 sq ft for about $1000 a month. What kind of license will it require? Is there much competition in the area? Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Gene

Gene,

You can find business license details at http://www.dlca.gov.vi/

Possiable Competition (which you might call and just ask questions to see what they offer and don't offer - to see if its every much like your business or not)

Compass Point Canvas (340)779-2788
Custom Canvas (340)775-6511
Mar ne tech (340)774-4363
Neptunes Loft (340)779-1938

Not sure if they are all marine related but Mar ne tech is.

Islander,

Thanks much for the info. It is a help. Still wondering what the rates are for commercial rentals in the Red Hook area. Would a Real Estate office have listings? Coming to the Island next month - if things go well, moving shortly after.

Thanks,

Gene,

The real estate sites will have links to the MLS where all properties are listed, but more then likely these are commerical properties that are for sale. Rental prices for commericial buildings like Nisky Center, Tutu Park Mall, Havensight Mall, Charlotte Amalie Shopping District, Four Winds Shopping area, Fort Mlyner, Wheatley Shopping Center, Red Hook Shopping Center depends greatly on the demand and traffic. If its going to be Red Hook then it would be in the American Yacht Harbor Shopping area or Red Hook Shopping area or there abouts. I have no idea what the rents in these buildings go for. You can call them and ask about their office/shopping spaces and rent....

American Yacht Harbor - (340)775-6454 I would also think that the boat yards might also have rental space. Also there is an area that I have now forgetten the name of but I am sure someone will help me out here.

It is down passed the old For the Birds... there are offices and shops there. (sorry I can't remember the name right now)

Look at the real estate sites and look through the MLS for commerical sites too.
