Car on STT

I'm trying to figure out the whole car thing and I've read conflicting reports of importing or buying in the islands.

Somewhere I've read that trucks are a good vehicle there and I have a chance to get a beater with low miles for a good deal from a friend of mine before he puts it on the market. It's built in the USA.

One possible problem is that it is painted a very dark color with a light color interior.

so:

1) Better to buy in the VI or import a USA beater?
2) Is a dark paint job a no-no?
