I am moving to STT in September. I am shipping my car but I do not know if I will be on the Island when the car arrives. Does anyone know of any companies that take care of picking up your car, getting it registered etc?

Dave,

Search old posts on shipping cars -- there have been quite a few discussions about companies that will handle this and the costs involved. I seem to recall a lot of mentions (some very recent) of Managed Freight and believe this was a service they could coordinate for you. Their number has also appeared in older posts on this terrific board.

It's critical that you get someone to pick up your car as soon as it arrives. The Port Authority only gives you five days to retrieve it before they begin to charge you for storing your vehicle, and the rates seemed to be around $12-$16 per day. They even charge you for weekends and holidays -- days that you couldn't possibly pick up your car because they are closed. (Can you tell we learned this lesson first hand? *blush*)

Hope it all works out for you!
