Does anyone have any information on the announcement that Marriott has bought the Carambola Beach Resort? Last I knew, newly renovated units were being sold as a condo-hotel. Did that change? We considered buying a unit last year, but decided against it because they only allowed the owner to use it 30 days a year. The balance of the time it had to be put in a rental pool.

If that property is properly managed, it should be one of the finest in the Caribbean.

Yes, it is official. The Carambola Resort is now a Marriott and the hotel chain has big plans for ongoing renovations and making it a premiere property. They've added a grill snack bar by the pool and have been sprucing up the entire property. Unlike the private investment groups who have owned the Carambola over the past decade or so, the Marriott shouldn't run out of $$ with renovations only partially complete. I look forward to seeing it shine. It's such a gorgeous location.

This is a marriott but it is a franchise they could well run out of money, this is not a flagship marriott but someone who has bought into the marriott name. No business wants to keep putting money in a sinking ship. I think if they would do something as simple as hire a couple of shuttle drivers to go to some of the different tourist destinations on the island they would get alot more business and have happier vacationers then doing alot of renovations. Its a beautiful property, my favorite on the island, but it is so far away from everything. People who vacation there often do not realize they will need a car when they stay there and many are hesitant to drive here. Some are nervous to drive on the left or with our windy roads or of just getting lost. If they invested money in shuttle vans and drivers i think that would help them get tourist as well as repeat tourist.
