My boyfriend and I are moving to St Croix from the states and are looking for a caretaker position. I will be working on a charter boat teaching sailing and my boyfriend has his own landscaping business here in the US. We are willing to trade house keeping, landscaping and general upkeep for a place to stay. If you have a vacation house or second home that needs to be looked after please let me know. We are very responsible, drug free, happy young couple who could keep your house occupied, clean as well as updating and maintaining your landscaping for free. Email me if you are interested at all. We are looking at a late September arrival date. Any questions, just ask

Caretaking positions are usually word of mouth (at least on St. Croix). My husband and I "lucked" into a caretaking position 6 years ago. We answered a "blind" ad that was run in the AVIS (the St. Croix newspaper). If I recall, the ad read something like "...house sitter/caretaker wanted. Must like animals. Send letter to P.O. Box..." We replied (wondering the entire time about the animals part. Was it chickens or some other farm animal?) We were contacted, we interviewed twice with the owners and moved into a nice apartment under a fabulous villa. The animals in question were 2 gorgeous german shepherds. The owners lived in New York and these were their "island dogs". We were there 5 years until the owners we worked for sold the house. It was by far, the best job either one of us had. I will suggest to you that once you get moved down here, put the word out (at the bars, grocery store, etc. ---basically to anyone you know on island. Good luck.

I would add that due to the housing demand on the Islands, many people have their homes "taken care" of by tenants who pay thousands per month to rent the property. This will definitely be an opportunitity that just pops up - good luck in your search.
