I am seeking opinions of the best cell phone provider for someone moving to St. John or St. Thomas?

Sprint or AT&T are your major options.

Having had multiple friends on both providers I can tell you that you can reliably get a strong signal from AT&T far more than you can from Sprint. In addition, my friends have been plagued with problems with their Sprint service down here including but not limited to loss of service, missed calls, missed text messages, delayed emails, lack of incoming/outgoing caller ID... etc.

I've got AT&T and although the Internet slows down on it sometimes, it's reliable and I've got a signal most everywhere.

Agreed! I have AT&T. The service seems to be the same here as it was in the states.

talk to Sprint and see about their "Airave" cellular signal booster...it works great!
I went from barely one bar to 100% signal through out my house and around my property...
One call after set up and they changed the coverage area from 5000ft sq to 8000ft sq...
plus into the DSL and it works great.
If I am in a conversation while leaving the boosted signal the system transfers to the nearest tower...same as in the real world!

While AT&T is the best, recently they do seem to have some latency issues with SMS. It seems that there can be a delay of as much as 45-60 minutes if texts are sent to some networks outside of AT&T. Within the AT&T network, there does not appear to be the latency issue. Anyone else noticing this?
