Choice Cable on STX

so I am in a vacation rental until November. It has one TV with one cable box. Is there a way to tape one show on my VCR and watch another? I could do this at home because the TV was cable ready so I didn't have a cable box and everything went into the TV. Another option I guess would be to tape one thing using the cable box and watch another using an antenna, but I didn't even know if an antenna would work down here.

I called Choice, and they said that there was no way to tape one show and watch another with the cable box. They said that I would have to get another cable box installed for $89. Since I'm only in my rental for another 6 weeks, I didn't think this made a lot of sense.

Any ideas? The fall TV season is starting soon, and I have serious entertainment needs. 🙂

Not my realm of expertise, by any means, but maybe you could pick up a cheap used cable ready TV, and resell it when you get ready to leave, or get any 2nd TV and put a splitter on the cable, so you can watch one and tape one. Would that work?

No way to do this with Choice because you need their specific (arachaic) box to receive their signal. Therefore you would need 2 boxes to have 2 shows on at the same time (one for the VCR, one for your simultaneous viewing).

You could get a very basic Innovative hook up that doesn't need a box (the most basic plan) and plug that straight into a your VCR or cable ready TV. You will only get about a dozen channels though, but that includes ABC,CBS,NBC, FOX and CW if that is what you are interested in.

If you were here long term I'd say do what I did and get DISH...its the only way to get real high end TV product with DVR etc. on the island.

I am here long-term - just in the vacation rental until November so I guess I will tough it out until then. After that, I guess DISH is the way to go! Thanks for the responses.
