Hi,

Regarding cable TV service I wondered if anyone has an opinion about which service is better and if so, why?

I have Innovative now and am thinking about trying Choice, but if there isn't much difference between the two I won't bother.

Thanks for any input you might have 🙂

I have dual satellite dishes at my house in Frederiksted and subscribe to DishNetwork...a little expensive to buy the 6 ft dish, but well worth the picture. have all the networks and the pay channels, close to 200 views + satellite music and cd's. Love it! With the 6 ft dish I loose signal only when the weather is really bad, much less than the 4ft. If you have a dish receiver that works in the state, just carry it to the island and use it as an addon to you stateside system. You just won't have the networks unless you have them in the states.
The cable that we use to subscibe to was never serviced or maintained...ever! Innovative couldn't find the time or even the estate where we are!

Pete, can you tell us what number to call, approximately the cost of that dish and monthly charge. I will be moving to stx in 5 weeks and that would be good info. thanks

One of the DishNetwork satellite providers on STX is Paradise Satellite 719-2488. I use them and have 3 dishes at my house. One pointing to satellite 119, another pointing to satellite 110 and a 3rd pointing to satellite 61.5. Sat 61.5 is where most of the HD channels are. I just got a new HD tv and the picture quality is UNBELIEVABLE! I agree with Pete, it is somewhat expensive, but well worth it. When your cable goes out you'll never get an answer as to what the problem is or when it'll get fixed and Innovative continues to bill you for monthly service even if your cable isn't working. No credit back on your account. With DishNetwork satellite tv you KNOW it's a weather issue and when bad weather is passed, your tv will be working again. Picture quality is 100% better than cable. FYI, if you're renting somewhere you'll need to check with your landlord to get approval to have a dish installed on the property. Also, most condo complexes on STX have cable, not satellite.

I have both Choice and Innovative in my house. Use Innovative as my primary with the movie channel packages and DSL. I have Choice in my office because of a news channel and financial channel they offer that is not included with Innovative.
I will say Choice has interruptions in service more often. I live on the East End and evidently have a problem with the wireless transmission of Chocie from time to time, especially in the evening and of course with any rain storm. I also do not paticularly care for the lag time on the Channel Guide. It takes about five seconds for the program information to download on Choice. So you have to pause a lot when paging through the channels to see what is on.
I actually get better customer service with Choice then I do with Innovative. But for now I like to have a backup. With having both in the house it is rare I am ever without Cable.

Maybe I'm missing something here but are we talking about STT or STX! I think Mell is on STT?

Hi,

Yes, I forgot to mention that I am on STT (thanks STT Res :)).

Thank you everyone for the feedback.

David, your comments were particularly helpful because satellite is not an option for us right now.
