Hey guys. I don't know if I mentioned that already but I'm from Poland and I'm frist time on Caribbean (i came here for one year interhsip). And my question is: what would be the best Christmas gifts for people who have never been here? I mean 33-year-old brother, 32-year-old sister-in-law and 57-year-old parents. Something that "saying" it's from Caribbean - but not any T-shirts with "Saint Thomas" or something like that. Brain storm, please 😀

The Crucial hook bracelet is a good united gift. You could get the ones with Lorimar for the ladies, and a plain one for the men. Make sure you get the printed legend with the bracelets.

Music is always good. There's a new Sounds of St Thomas steel pan CD.

Spice blends are always nice. St John Spice (Google for website) has a great selection, and they'll ship for you.

I have sent tarts express mail.

Wood carvings by Avelino Samuel (Google) are fabulous.

Rum cakes are good, but it should be a good one. Not the Tortuga tourist ones.

A book of Caribbean photos. Can't recommend a specific one right now.

A Caribbean cookbook. There are several good ones.

If I think of more, I'll post again.

What exactly do you mean by Caribbean sweets? You can try Diamond Barrel in town next to the Moravian Church. I haven't had their sweets, but their whole wheat dumb bread is good. One of my co-worker's sister does sweets to order. Usually cakes, I think.

Started my Christmas shopping this weekend. Bought mahogany purse size perfume atomizers for $20 each at Woodworkers Expo at UVI. Lots of really nice other items that I had to walk away from.

Went to Dolphin Dreams in Red Hook and got the last mocko jumbie ink pen made by one of the local art teachers. They're good to have on your desk/cash register, because people can't walk away with them easily. They also had nice locally made soaps and lotions, but I've given those already.

One of the woodworkers had pens made from recycled bowling balls! Gorgeous!

Caribbean Rum Balls is making rum cakes on STT now, and they've got a chocolate marble version. Haven't tried it yet.

Bought other items, but they weren't made here.
